A traditional delicacy in Belgium and Holland: doughnut balls (in Dutch: oliebollen). It’s a fried yeast dish, traditionally eaten at New Year’s Eve. During the year they are sold at carnivals across the country in a doughnut ball booth (oliebollenkraam).

You can make them by adding two spoons of the batter in a pan with hot oil and then bake the doughnut ball until it is brown. You can make the batter with flower, eggs, yeast, salt and milk. The batter needs to rise for about an hour, so the doughnut balls will be airy. Add icing sugar to enjoy a more sweet taste.
