St Nicholas’ birthday is celebrated in the Netherlands with lots of candy and gifts. When everyone participating in any given party is older, the evening is often exchanged for an evening of poetry and surprises. A surprise is a surprise gift, which is often selfmade and very ingenious and surprisingly packed.
